Bringing two families together is one of the most special parts of a wedding day. It is a time filled with love, support and new beginnings. At the same time, planning a wedding ceremony can sometimes feel complicated, especially when both families have different traditions, beliefs or expectations.

As a celebrant, I believe a wedding ceremony should feel warm, personal and welcoming for everybody attending. The ceremony is not only about the couple. It is also about bringing families and loved ones together in a meaningful and respectful way.

Every family is different. Some families may have strong cultural traditions, while others may prefer a simple modern ceremony. Some couples may want to include religious or spiritual elements, while others may want a completely non-religious wedding. There is no right or wrong approach. The important thing is creating a ceremony which feels comfortable and genuine for everyone involved.

A celebrant-led wedding gives couples the freedom to include personal touches which reflect both families. This may include cultural traditions, symbolic gestures, family readings, candle lighting, handfasting or remembering loved ones who can’t be there on the day.

I always encourage couples to talk openly about what matters most to them and their families. Often, small thoughtful touches can help everybody feel included and valued during the ceremony.

The aim is always to create a wedding ceremony filled with warmth, kindness, respect and connection. A well-planned ceremony helps bring people together and creates lasting memories for everyone sharing the day.

At the heart of every wedding is love, family and support. When a ceremony reflects both families in a caring and respectful way, it can make the day feel even more meaningful and special for everybody involved.
