After a death, there are several important steps to take before a funeral can be arranged. For families in Suffolk, understanding the process can help bring reassurance at a difficult time.
A Medical Examiner will review the cause of death, ensuring it has been recorded accurately. They may check medical records, speak with the doctor involved, and contact the family if needed.
Once this is complete, the death can be registered through the local Register Office. This is usually done by appointment, and you will need to provide details such as the person’s name, date of birth, address, and occupation. The registrar will then issue the certificate needed for the funeral.
Funerals in Suffolk may take place at local crematoria such as West Suffolk Crematorium and Cemetery, Ipswich Crematorium, Waveney Memorial Park and Crematorium or burial grounds, with arrangements managed by your funeral director.
