Not every wedding needs to be large or extravagant to feel incredibly special.

In fact, some of the most emotional and meaningful weddings I have had the privilege of leading have been the smaller, quieter ones.

There is often something wonderfully intimate about gathering together with just the people closest to you.

Modern weddings often bring together different cultures, traditions and beliefs. This can create a beautiful and meaningful wedding ceremony which reflects both families and both backgrounds. When planned with care and respect, a blended ceremony can help everybody feel included and welcomed on the day.

As a celebrant, I believe the aim is not to lose either tradition, but to celebrate both in a natural and respectful way. Every couple is different, and every wedding ceremony should reflect the people at the heart of it.

Some couples choose to include cultural readings, symbolic rituals, traditional clothing, music or family customs within their ceremony. Others may include religious or spiritual elements alongside modern wedding ideas. There is no right or wrong way to do this. The most important thing is that the ceremony feels comfortable and meaningful for you both.

I always encourage couples to talk openly about what matters most to them and their families. Sometimes even small touches can make a big difference. This may include a traditional blessing, a family prayer, handfasting, candle lighting or including different languages within the ceremony.

A celebrant-led wedding gives couples much more flexibility and freedom. Unlike a standard scripted ceremony, your wedding can be created around your personalities, values and traditions. This helps create a ceremony which feels personal, genuine and welcoming for everybody attending.

Blending cultures and traditions together can also be a wonderful way of bringing families closer together. It allows people to learn more about one another and share in something special.

At the heart of every wedding ceremony is love, respect and connection. When different traditions are brought together with care and understanding, it can create a truly memorable and meaningful wedding day for everybody involved.
