Writing personal wedding vows can feel quite emotional and sometimes a little daunting too.

I often find couples telling me they worry they will not know what to say, that they are not good with words, or that they may become emotional standing in front of everybody.

From my experience, wedding vows do not need to sound like poetry or something from a film.

The most meaningful vows are usually the simplest ones because they come from the heart.

Start by thinking about your relationship together.

Think about the little moments that matter.

What do you love most about your partner?

What makes you smile about them?

What have they brought into your life?

Sometimes the smallest and simplest things can become the most touching part of a ceremony.

Your vows can be romantic, gentle, funny, emotional, or a mixture of all of those things.

You may want to include promises for the future, support during difficult times, or simply the everyday things that matter most in a marriage.

Do not put pressure on yourselves to make everything perfect.

Nobody in that room is expecting perfection.

The people listening will simply hear the love and sincerity behind your words.

Many of the couples I work with choose to write their vows together, while others keep them private until the ceremony itself. Either approach can work beautifully.

As a celebrant, I always gently guide couples through the process and help them feel comfortable and supported.

Your wedding vows should sound like you.

Warm. Personal. Honest.

Those are always the vows people remember most.
