  1. Purpose of this Policy

As a Minister and Celebrant, I have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of every person I work with. This safeguarding policy sets out my commitment to protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults from harm, abuse, or exploitation.

  1. My Commitment

I will:

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Act in the best interests of those I serve.
  • Be alert to signs of harm, neglect, or abuse.
  • Report concerns promptly to the appropriate safeguarding authorities.
  • Work within the law and safeguarding guidance relevant to my role.
  1. Scope

This policy applies to all aspects of my work, including:

  • Religious, non-religious, and celebration ceremonies (weddings, funerals, blessings, etc.).
  • Pastoral support and counselling.
  • Community gatherings and events.
  • Online and telephone communication.
  1. Recognising Abuse

Abuse can take many forms, including (but not limited to):

  • Physical abuse – causing physical harm.
  • Emotional abuse – causing fear, humiliation, or distress.
  • Sexual abuse – inappropriate sexual contact or behaviour.
  • Neglect – failing to meet basic needs.
  • Financial abuse – exploitation or misuse of money.
  1. Responding to Concerns

If I am concerned about the safety of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult, I will:

  1. Listen carefully without judgment.
  2. Reassure the person that they are being taken seriously.
  3. Record what I have seen or been told, using clear and factual language.
  4. Report the concern to the appropriate safeguarding authority or emergency services if there is immediate danger.

I will never promise confidentiality in situations where safety is at risk.

  1. Safe Practice

To keep people safe, I will:

  • Meet in safe, appropriate settings.
  • Avoid being alone with a child or vulnerable adult where possible.
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
  • Use respectful and appropriate communication in person and online.
  1. Training and Awareness

I will keep my safeguarding knowledge up to date through training, reading guidance, and learning from safeguarding professionals.

  • Local Safeguarding Authority – You can report concerns to Lincolnshire County Council’s Customer Service Centre at 01522 782111 for children and 01522 782155 for adults, or contact the Emergency Duty Team at 01522 782333 for out-of-hours emergencies.
  • Emergency Services – Dial 999 if someone is in immediate danger.
  1. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed every year (or sooner if legislation or guidance changes).
